The art work I will be analyzing is Paul Klee's Separation in the evening, painted in 1922, using water colours on paper. Art movement- Paul Klee was a part of the art movement called; Jugendstil, which was a type of movement described as a fusion of the current events of the time and the incorporation of themes by using different techniques and initiatives in the making of the composition. People often catergorised this movement as modern art. Influences- Profound influences in Paul Klee's work were other artists, some of the mentioned artist were; Michelangelo; van Gogh, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Rousseau and Kandinsky. Although other artist were influences, his inspiration came purely from his family, who had strong interests in music and religion. It is cited in some of his quotes that he would incorporate some of his beliefs and past interests in music into some of his paintings. Paul was also a member of the Bauhaus; a well known international school and philosophy that strive to harmonise art and craft. Combining all of Paul's influences he composed pieces of work such as the 'Gothic Cathedral'. With this specific composition the piece depicts spiritual yearning which was likely influenced by his family. |
